Rules and Regulation

Mission

Global Dance Tournaments (GDT) is a world dance competition unlike any other.
GDT provides an opportunity for ambitious young dancers to strive for excellence. Besides cash prizes for dance students, it is also an opportunity to recognize dance coaches and dance schools for their educational contributions and achievements.

Age and divisions

GDT is for female and male dancers aged 5 to 16 of any nationality. Candidates are divided into Divisions listed below. Age is defined by 30 June 2024.

Professional dancers are not allowed to participate in the GDT competition. A professional dancer is defined as a person who is currently or has been employed as a full-time dancer, including apprentices in professional dance companies.

Jury and tutors

GDT invites international dance experts and educators to be jury and tutors. Details will be announced on the GDT website.

Procedure of Competition

The GDT 2024 Video Contest will be launched from 8 June to 30 June 2024 to select the representatives from multiple countries through video recording.


In addition to sharing the performance highlights of the top 50 winners in each division on the GDT official website, the 50 selected winners are eligible to advance for the honor of the GDT Finals to be held in Thailand in December 2024


GDT 2024 Video Contest

GDT 2024 Video Contest Registration

  • Registration Closes: 31 May, 2024 (Hong Kong time)

  • Video Contest registration fee: HKD1,280 per variation

  • Candidates must complete the online GDT Video Contest Registration Form, and settle the required fee on or before the listed due date.
     

GDT 2024 Video Contest Submission
 

  • Video Submission period: 1 June, 2024 ~ 30 June, 2024 (Hong Kong time)

  • Candidates need to upload the video following the instructions from GDT by the due date.

  • Video of previous stage performances is not accepted.

  • Each individual video must be made in MP4 within 500 MB and uploaded to a link provided by the GDT committee.

  • Result will be announced on 1 July, 2024, on the GDT website.

  • Awards and prizes will be awarded as below:

    • Selected candidates will receive GDT Video Contest Top 50 Certificates of each division in digital form.

    • Each GDT Divisions’ Top 50 winners are eligible to compete in the GDT Final Top 100.

    • The top 50 participants of each GDT division are released on GDT Video Contest Glory Board.

    • Participating Certificate for all GDT Video Contest contestants in digital form.

 

 

GDT 2024 Finals

GDT Finals Date & Location

​

  • GDT 2024 Finals will be held in December, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand.

  • Candidates will take Master class, and present their variations to jury members in Semi-finals on Day 1 to Day 3.

  • Top 100 Finalists* will be selected and compete on Day 4, the Award Ceremony will be held right after the competition.
     

GDT Finals Registration

  • GDT Finals is open to the invited candidates only.

  • Finals registration period: 2 July ~ 1 August, 2024 (Hong Kong time)

  • Finals registration fee:  HKD 2,380 per variation

  • To register, candidates must complete the online GDT Finals Registration Form, and settle the required fee by credit card on or before the listed due date.

GDT Finals Awards

​

  • GDT Final Award – offered to candidates in each division, who demonstrate high standards of artistry and technique in class and on stage during competition. Each winner receives, a Ranking Certificate, and cash stated as below:

  • GDT Final Top Award US$1,000 each division
    GDT Final 2nd Award US$500 each division
    GDT Final 3rd Award US$300 each division

  • GDT Final 4th to 10th Place Accomplishment Prize - Each division has the opportunity to offer a Prize and a Ranking Certificate to candidates.

  • GDT Final 11th to 50th Place Certificates - Each division has the opportunity to offer a Ranking Certificate to candidates to motivate and inspire future enhancements.

  • GDT Final Top 100 - ranking will be given, and shown on the GDT Final Contest Glory Board.

  • GDT Final Top 100 Best Dance School and Coach Award - offered to the dance school and coach a prize certificate, which collected the highest credit points.

  • Each GDT Final Divisions’ winners’ dance school or coach will receive credit points.

    • GDT Top Award - 9 points

    • GDT 2nd Award - 7 points

    • GDT 3rd Award - 5 points

    • GDT 4th to 10th Prize - 3 points

    • GDT 11th to 50th Prize - 1 point

      *Remarks: Top 100 finalists refer to Top 10 finalists in each division

General rules & regulations

Once the application has been submitted to the GDT committee, the registration fee is not eligible for a refund, referral or transfer in any situation. GDT reserves the right to deny any registration at its discretion.

Solo variation
​
Candidates can choose any variations from classical repertoire and any music for contemporary solo. All copyright (for instance, music and choreography) clearances are the responsibility of the candidate.

Please take the candidate's ability into consideration whether they should perform in pointe shoes.

Registration in final competition

In the final competition, any change of registered information or variation music must be sent to GDT by email 30 days before the competition, and approved by the GDT management. An administrative fee of HK$500 will be charged for each change of information within 30 days or during the competition.

Health condition

GDT values physical and psychological health in dancers, which is essential to a long-term dance career. Candidates must provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding their condition of health by filling in a health questionnaire as part of the final registration.

Attendance at class, variation competition in final competition

Attendance at class, variation performance, listed on schedule for specific divisions and candidates is compulsory. Failure to attend compulsory activities will lead to disqualification from the competition.

Access for teachers and accompanying persons

Competition tickets and Class Viewing Passes may be purchased online or at the specific locations listed on the website.  Availability and type of ticket and pass varies on-site situation.

Backstage entry is strictly for candidates only. Teachers and accompanying persons are not allowed to enter the backstage area.

Right of photographs, visual and audio recording

GDT assigns an official photographer and videographer. GDT owns the permanent right to all photographs, visual and audio recordings of the performance and participation of candidates during competition. Candidates agree to waive all rights to all recordings made by GDT or by any authorized third party on behalf of GDT, and allow such recordings to be used by GDT or authorized sponsors and third party for any form of promotional and commercial purpose. Photography and video filming by audience at the auditorium or in class studio of AGP Competition is forbidden.

Travel arrangement

Travel visa, expenses to attend the competition, and insurance against accidents, injury, illness and theft, are at participants’ own cost and responsibility.

Decision

The rules & regulations of GDT 2024 may be subject to adjustment. GDT has the right to all final decisions of the rules and regulations, and the results of competition. Decision of Jury on distribution of any award, and prize is final and irrevocable. GDT Jury reserves the right to offer or not to offer any published award or prize if no suitable candidate is identified.

A jury member, who either has worked closely with a candidate or is associated with the school of a candidate for the past six months, does not give a mark to this specific candidate during the competition.

Legal responsibility

All candidates and participants must agree to indemnify GDT from any legal action and/or cost resulting from any physical injury sustained during the participation in any activities in GDT. This Rules and Regulations is created in English and subject to Hong Kong laws and the local laws of the competition., and the content is subject to change. Translated versions in other languages are for reference only. In case of dispute, the decision of GDT remains final.
